Working with artifacts from Appalachian landscapes, “Are You Saved” uses sculpture and experimental video to revisit our perceptions of progress. These objects, along with harsh landscapes of digital decay, evoke a sense of loss—a mourning for futures that may not come. This body of work is an exploration of powerlessness, aiming to disrupt the narrative of technological inevitability by imagining future frontiers inclusive of all communities and versions of modernity. How might the future work with our past rather than to replace it?
